How To Hunt 2 Great Technical Co-founders in One Shot
We’ve been struggling without technical person on board for a while. This definitely made us stronger and much more flexible in validating idea without a single line of code. Follow me to read more about this topic in my next post.
Today I’m gonna share with you 5 steps that helped us find not just one, but two incredible guys with perfect technical and personal background. Let's get started!
1. Describe your perfect target
Start from the list of specific skills. It could be professional (technologies, platforms, programming languages), individual (open minded, flexible, sharp, bully), interests which are on the intersection with your project (pets, parties, healthy living, in our case it is a meditation).
2. Define their habitat
Think where is this person could be found. Who may know him. Maybe there is a someone in your network who can connect you? Which blogs this person reads, which products do they use.
Our target audience was users of Headspace (meditation app), probably working in outsourcing company, with 5+ years experience and bunch of his/her own side projects.
3. Identify the bait
Think about fundamental motivation for this person. Why he/she will start working on your startup? Why spend their free time on something which is so indefinite and unpredictable.
We had a feeling our future co-founder is probably already successful at his current work position, but he/she always looking for some adventures and challenges. Just regular job wouldn’t be enough enough for them. So the main motivation could be a big challenge or making something useful and good for the society or working in the team of same crazy people as he/she is.
4. Get in the field. With a gun
We materialized our gun as this article on Medium where we mentioned all the skills we are looking to find in a wanted person and all the benefits person will get.
It’s like dating, or like searching for a husband I would say. You are going into jungles, representing yourself as a hunter, and looking for the perfect target. Than Boom!
5. Shoot it!
Now it’s time to share. I mean share your post everywhere!
We’ve planned go for local (Ukrainian) blogs but after releasing the article and sharing through my efficient social networks (I love you all, my people ❤) there was no need for that. We received requests from wonderful guys from all over Ukraine.
They were so good and into our nieche so we couldn’t choose and made an offer for two of them!
Now it’s time for Founderdating month. There are still so much to explore about each other. I hope it will work out for four of us and we will make strong dream team.
BTW: we are still looking for Product Designer with huge balls in UX and UI. You’ve probably seen how terrible our landing is and you didn’t even see our prototype and Pitch Deck designs yet. So yeah! We need your talented creative hands on here. If you are reading this — write me a message.
Good luck startup founders with building successful teams. We all know that human capital is one of the the most important ingredients here!
Tell me, how do you usually search for team-mates?
